Grandpa Scotty is OK

$3,000.00

15 x 9 x 2 inches (38 x 23 x 5 cm)

2024

Approximately 50 McDonalds hamburgers and 2,000 fries were eaten to make this solemn tribute to the first time a mass shooting impacted the sculptor as a child. A semiautomatic Uzi like this one was used in the 1984 San Diego shooting of 40 victims at a McDonald’s in San Ysidro, CA. The sculptor’s great-grandfather, an elderly daily regular at a nearby McDonald’s, was also in San Diego at the time of the shooting.

Grandpa Scotty was unharmed. He was far from where the incident occurred. Years later, well into old age, he would tell stories about old Scotland in an accent so thick, it was difficult for his grandchildren to understand him.

This sculpture was built with 100% recycled cardboard and paper packaging personally salvaged by Mike Leavitt.

This piece includes the metal title plaque and wall display mounting hardware pictured here.

Please note: This is a fake gun. It is not real, and does not shoot anything. This is made from nothing but paper and cardboard McDonald’s packaging. This is a piece of sculpture and political parody.
