Macintosh Killed the Public Phone Call

$3,500.00
SOLD

28 x 10 x 8 inches (54 x 20 x 16 cm)

2024

Packaging from the consumption of half an Apple desktop, 8 Apple accessories, 2 iPhones and 1 iPad made this ode to the pay phone possible. Constructed only from former Apple Mac packaging boxes, this sculpture has several moving parts.

The coin return flipper, telephone receiver, keypad buttons and coin return slot all move. These are strangely satisfying motions, for anyone who remembers relying so heavily on this device in a sticky moment. And for everyone else too young to know what it felt like, well, this is what an iPhone used to look like. You can’t quite twirl the cord on your finger, but you never could with that steel cable, could you?

This piece includes a metal title plaque and easily mounts on any wall, or displays free standing on a shelf or pedestal.

Note: This is not an operable telephone.
